La Playa Shines at the Screenland 5K
La Playa Cooperative Nursery School had an incredible time participating in this year’s Screenland 5K! From start to finish, the event was filled with energy, connection, and community spirit — and we were so proud to be part of it.
Our La Playa families showed up in full force. Parents and children ran, walked, cheered, and volunteered together, turning the morning into a true celebration of movement and togetherness. One highlight was watching one of our young runners complete the entire first mile in a lion costume — a perfect example of the joyful enthusiasm that defines our school community.
Beyond participating in the race, La Playa families gave back by volunteering along the course during the early morning setup. It was meaningful to support a large community event while representing our cooperative preschool in action. Our booth created a welcoming space to gather before and after the race, and we loved connecting with so many families from across the area.
The event also allowed us to share La Playa’s mission with new faces. We connected with several prospective families who were excited to learn about our play-based, parent-participation model. We even received donations through the event’s charity platform — a wonderful reminder of how community events can strengthen both visibility and support.
Most of all, it was simply a delightful morning together. Being outside, moving our bodies, cheering each other on, and spending relaxed time as families reminded us why we value community so deeply.
We are so grateful to everyone who ran, volunteered, donated, and stopped by our booth. We’re already looking forward to participating again in the future!
